Social media are simply interactive technologies which enable the generation or sharing/exchange/interaction of relevant information, opinions, career interests, and so on through virtual connections and online communities. It is often known by the acronyms SMAS or social media systems; SUVs for search engines, MySpace for social networking, and Twitter for blogging. In the beginning, social media were focused on connecting with long-time friends and relatives. Today, however, it has evolved into a way of marketing businesses and products online as well as an avenue for various forms of communication such as email, text, instant messaging, and blogging.
