InMotion Hosting Review(2023): Affordable Web Hosting Plans For Your Website

InMotion is a web hosting company that offers affordable web hosting services for personal and professional websites. In this InMotion Hosting review, we will discuss the pros and cons of their shared, dedicated, and reseller plans to help you find the best plan for your needs.

The lack of Windows servers in InMotion can put off people who need them. Overall, however, the web hosting service is vital and well worth the investment.

What is InMotion Hosting?

InMotion Hosting was founded in 2011 by Inmotion Hosting, LLC. InMotion is a privately owned web host that has more than 1500 servers. It now hosts over 500K websites and it continues to expand rapidly each year. In 2012 InMotion Hosting decided to offer hosting services for everything from small personal blogs up to demanding high traffic sites that need enterprise-grade resources.

InMotion states its goal as providing premium hosting solutions with superb customer support at an affordable price point and they are succeeding tremendously well because of their focus on customers’ requirements and satisfaction making them one of the best web hosts available today.

InMotion Hosting Pricing and Plan

InMotion Hosting price starts from $5.99/month for a shared hosting plan with unlimited bandwidth and disk space, free domain name ($10.20 value), 25 free email accounts, 30 days money-back guarantee, 24×7 customer support, and many more features for you to explore.

Shared Web Hosting

Building a website doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavor. If you’re looking to dig into cheap web hosting, shared hosting is worth a look. Your site is in a roommate situation with many other locations on a single server with shared hosting. You split the server costs and the available resources. As you might have guessed, shared web hosting isn’t very powerful. Sharing resources means that if a site is busy, fewer resources will be available for the rest. Still, it’s a reliable solution for people who don’t expect massive website traffic.

InMotion offers three Linux-based shared web hosting plans. The simplest version, Launch ($4.99 per month with an annual subscription), supports two websites and 50GB of SSD storage. With Power ($7.99 per month with a yearly subscription), you get 50 websites and 100GB of SSD storage. Pro builds on Power and offers 100 websites and 200 GB SSD storage. Unfortunately, Pro is the only tier of InMotion Shared Hosting that doesn’t require you to get an annual subscription. It starts at $19.99 per month. On the other hand, all InMotion Hosting shared hosting plans include unlimited monthly data transfers and email accounts.

Nevertheless, HostGator wins the PCMag Editors’ Choice Award for shared web hosting services. InMotion’s rival offers unlimited email, storage, and monthly data transfers for every plan, with a choice of Linux or Windows-based servers. The Windows option requires websites with software that runs on an ASP.NET framework.

InMotion Hosting: VPS Web Hosting

In terms of performance, VPS hosting offers more pop than shared hosting. That is because your site lives on a server where far fewer sites compete for resources than shared hosting. In addition, the web hosts provide a guaranteed minimum of help to your website. As a result, VPS hosting is more expensive than shared hosting, but it is a far more powerful and reliable system. You can think of VPS hosting as living in your apartment. You will have neighbors, but they are not all as much in your capacity as hosting-style roommates can.

InMotion Hosting offers managed hosting and unmanaged cloud VPS web hosting.

Managed VPS starts at $51.99 per month (or $29.99 per month on a two-year plan), while unmanaged, scalable cloud VPS starts at $5 per month.

You get reputable top-level specs, including 8GB of RAM, 6TB of monthly data transfers, five dedicated IPs, and up to 260GB of storage. Unlimited emails, domains, websites, and MySQL databases include. InMotion has a good VPS offering but isn’t as robust as Hostwinds, PCMag editors’ choice for VPS hosting.

Hostwinds has stacked and flexible VPS deals starting at $4.49 per month for 1GB of RAM, 30GB of hard drive space, unlimited monthly data transfers, and unlimited email addresses. The offer for 96GB of RAM, 750GB of hard drive space, unlimited monthly data transfers, and a complete email address is up to $247.69 per month. Hostwinds give you plenty of room to grow.

Dedicated Web Hosting

With dedicated hosting, your website lives on a server and uses the full power of the system. In other words, you don’t share your server with roommates – you have the whole house to yourself. As a result, dedicated hosting is an effective type of web hosting. You should look into if you are expecting your website to receive a lot of traffic. Mission-critical sites that cannot shut do (or slowed down) should reside on dedicated servers.

You are upgrading to the latest Intel Xeon technology. With more Linux options (including (Centos 7/8, Debian 9/10, Ubuntu 04/18/20/04) OpenSUSE), InMotion Hosting’s dedicated and bare metal plans are excellent choices for large websites. Starting at $139.99 per month, the company’s dedicated web servers can configure with up to 25TB of storage, 15TB monthly data transfers, and an impressive 192GB of RAM. For even bigger specs, check out InMotion’s custom build services that allow you to plan, build, and customize the hardware however you want.

Inmotion has specific dedicated web hosting plans, but AccuWeb, PCMag’s dedicated hosting editorial team, has better all-round packages. AccuWeb offers dedicated hosting plans (starting at $99) to equip up to 8 TB of SSD storage and 512 GB of RAM. They also provide 20TB of monthly data transfers. You can even choose between Linux or Windows-based servers for additional flexibility.

WordPress Web Hosting

WordPress is one of the top names in web hosting as the service is the content management system for around 30 percent of the internet. If you are looking for WordPress hosting, InMotion has reliable plans. Your digital footprint is on a server that only hosts WordPress websites. InMotion is a massive benefit in terms of loading times and reliability.

Your WordPress website resides in a WordPress-only ecosystem, which has some significant advantages. Server settings such as cache, PHP workers, and more select according to the specifications recommended directly by WordPress. Stop hosting your website on a server running Concrete5 on one website and Joomla on another. All websites now live in a WordPress world of harmony, speed, and reliability.

The content management system is pre-installed on the Linux-based, WordPress-optimized servers from InMotion Hosting. They offer website staging and automatic software updates. InMotion Hosting will automatically update your third-party WordPress plugins. It also supports your WordPress installation with a custom NGINX stack and an internal caching system.

WP-1000S ($4.99 per month, on an annual plan) offers 50 GB of solid-state drive space, approximately 20,000 visitors, the ability to host a website, and unlimited email and monthly data transfers. WP-2000S (starting at $7.99 per month) has a 100GB SSD drive, 50,000 visitors, and the ability to host two websites.

The WP-3000S and WordPress VPS plans to round off the two top plans.

Starting at $10.99 per month on an annual plan, WP-3000S gives you a total of three websites, 150GB of storage, and unlimited email. WordPress VPS (starting at $51.99 per month) is the top package fully managed by in-house professionals. It gives you unlimited websites, dedicated resources, three dedicated IPs, and 75GB of storage, plus the ability to add more grip as a paid feature.

Last but not least, WordPress dedicated hosting plans offer monthly or annual subscriptions. Starting at $139.99 per month, it contributes to hosting on a dedicated server that includes up to 15 dedicated IP addresses, website migration, and the option to add a software RAID.

That said, A2 rules as the WordPress hosting champion. Editors’ Choice award-winning service features Linux-based servers that offer unlimited storage and monthly data transfers at every level. There are also several managed options for those who would like their sites to receive the white-glove treatment.

Reseller Web Hosting: InMotion Hosting

If you want to get into the web hosting game but don’t want to boot up your servers or worry about providing the bandwidth, check out InMotion Reseller Hosting Plans. The six plans, which start at $21.39 per month, offer up to 6TB of monthly bandwidth, unlimited email, and more than cPanel accounts (depending on your account).

The R-1000S entry-level plan includes 80 GB of storage, 800 GB of monthly data transfer, and 25 cPanels. The mid-tier R-2000S plan increases storage to 120 GB and monthly data transfers to 1,200 GB. The R-3000S offers 160 GB of storage space and 1,600 GB of monthly data transfer. InMotion Hosting also provides 24/7/365 customer support and gives you a choice of Linux or Windows-based servers. While they can’t quite compete with the robust Editors’ Choice award-winning offerings from Hostwinds, the plans are pretty respectable.

Overview of InMotion Hosting Features

InMotion Hosting has some good features to be mentioned here. 24/7 customer support, and it’s really fast to respond. The average response time is 30 secs. So you can always talk to a real person when you have an issue with your account.

Free migration of your existing website for the shared hosting accounts and even free migration of single domain VPS & Dedicated server accounts.

Setting Up a Website With InMotion

I have chosen the starting plan for my tests. I am disappointed that I was only able to sign up for an entire year. As with most web hosts, a discount applies for the first term (up to three years). InMotion announces renewal rates, so you don’t get any surprises. Unfortunately, there are no monthly options.

Overview of Features

We were a bit dubious when the confirmation page said that an account specialist would call me to complete the setup process. I wasn’t able to log in until that happened.

However, the call was quick and helpful, and I was in no hurry to make additional purchases.

The representative asked a few questions about the website I was trying to create and then emailed me the appropriate welcome materials. You access your general account settings via the Account Management Panel (AMP). However, a separate cPanel login is required to manage the website.

The service’s website builder requires a different login and password, but otherwise, creating a website is a straightforward proposition. You have three types of sites to choose from (Site, Blog, or Photo Gallery), you can select themes and colors, and you can choose the types of pages you want to include in your site.

In addition to standard pages like Contact Us and About Us, you can add unique pages like Flash Intro and eShop. Next, you can add a map, poll, RSS reader, or script module to your pages. The Premium Website Builder doesn’t create beautiful pages. However, my site looked out of date. Alternatively, you can use WordPress to build your site. That opens the door to many site-optimizing WordPress themes and WordPress plugins.

InMotion Hosting Review: E-Commerce and Security

InMotion Hosting offers many eCommerce options, although the payment options are somewhat limited. You can also download OpenCart or PrestaShop (both free) for a more robust business. I’ve tried OpenCart. It offers a comprehensive dashboard for tracking customers and sales and multiple shipping and payment options. InMotion beats out other hosts like iPower and JustHost, which charge an additional monthly fee for e-commerce. Unfortunately, eCommerce isn’t available with the basic launch plan. However, it does offer its Power and Pro plans.

InMotion offers various security features, including free remote backup services for accounts less than 10GB in size. WordPress sites can use a free Sucuri Security plugin to check for malware and other security risks. McAfee spam and virus protection (starting at $1.39 per month) is also available for email accounts. You can purchase SSL Certificates ($99.99 per year with an installation fee of $25), including a dedicated IP address.

InMotion Hosting Excellent Uptime

Uptime is an essential aspect of the hosting experience. If your website is down, customers or customers will not be able to find you or will not be able to access your products or services. That is a nightmare scenario. Fortunately, InMotion showed reliable uptime in my tests.

I use a website monitoring tool to keep track of the availability of my test websites over 14 days. Every 15 minutes, the device pings my website and emails me if it can’t contact the area for at least a minute. The data showed that my InMotion site did not fail at all during the trial period.

A Worthy Web Host

InMotion is a hosting web service that can be used to meet your personal or business hosting needs, provided you don’t need a Windows server. The other notable caveat is that with Inmotion. You can only go the monthly route with select plans if you need short-term hosting. However, if these aren’t deal-breakers, InMotion is a web host that makes your time and money.

InMotion Hosting Customer Support

InMotion Hosting has different types of customer support available for you to choose from.

Live chat: It works well with the ticket system as a secondary method. Most times there is no wait time and they are very helpful when it comes to solving issues

FAQs: Very comprehensive and easy to understand for everyone, even if you have never had any experience with hosting before. The knowledgebase is full of articles that cover just about everything you can think of, even things that might seem like common sense (but aren’t) such as “How do I log into my cPanel?”. There are also videos available for many topics in case reading isn’t your thing or maybe you just need some extra visuals.

If you can’t find what you need in the knowledge base, feel free to check out their forums. They cover a lot of topics such as WordPress, PHP, databases, and other things you might need help with.

I started InMotion’s webchat weekly to see how shared hosting is different from VPS hosting. A representative showed up a few seconds later, and I got the information I needed.

I later called InMotion customer support to find out more about hosting resellers. Someone took my call quickly and gently explained the differences in everyday language. I am satisfied with InMotion’s customer service.

InMotion Hosting Money-Back Guarantee

The average industry practice for money-back guarantees is typically 30 days.

But not InMotion Hosting. Not because I choose to do it, but because I hesitate to buy something that the company doesn’t stand behind.

They are so confident in their service that they offer up to 90 days guarantee for their service to prove. However, Dreamhost‘s 97-day money-back guarantee outperforms InMotion’s offerings every week.

InMotion Hosting Alternatives

Many other hosting services offer one of the most common alternatives that users and reviewers compare to internet hosting. Other essential factors to consider when looking for web hosting options include integrity, ease-of-use, expense vs. affordability ratio, cost per user/customer, and data transfer speeds – all important components in determining what is best suited for your website’s needs.

We have compiled a list of services selected by the reviewers as the best internet hosting alternatives and competitors available, consisting of Pantheon, Hostwinds, Kinsta, and Bluehost.

Conclusion

InMotion is a feature-rich web hosting service that caters to many hosting needs assuming you don’t need a Windows server.

After doing the review so far, you may be wondering if InMotion Hosting is the right option for your website.
